It is a day when Latvians go to the Statue of Freedom to honor their heroes but so called "anti-fascists" follow their parade with shouts filled with lies and profanities.
The movie "To Win or to Die" tells about March 16 and the events which are connected to this date. The story begins with June 17, 1940. It is followed with the terrible tale about the Year of Horrors and its consequences. It tells how and why the Latvian Legion was established. The movie talks how the Latvian legionaries struggled for their nation even after the war ant it explains why the March 16 is a day of remembrance for the Latvian legionaries. The story about the past is supplemented with documentary footages which encourage thinking but also create emotions by reminding of events which affect humanity till today.
The producer of this movie Leonards Inkins not only explains the history and significance of the Legionnaire's Remembrance Day but also makes us to think about how an attitude about the nation's history and it's heroes influences the survival of any nation in the past and in the future. The movie declares that the honoring of its heroes is the source of strength for a nation, without it the nation will not be able to survive.
