Bio
DANNY ORANGE (real name – Justinas Zakevicius), born and spent his early days in Soviet Lithuania, missed a chance to be influenced by some of the names most of the DJs of his age were. In a country where even Modern Talking were taboo (maybe it‘s even better...) his first records were those by Queen, Pink Floyd and Stevie Wonder found in a collection gathered by his father in early 90‘s. No matter how ridiculously this may sound, but DJ Tonka‘s rather cheesy, but funky house beats were the ones which got him into dance music in mid-90’s.
Started his first experiments at the decks in 1998, being 14, at his local dancefloor, he later explored most of EDM styles stretching from classic disco, funk or pop music, through the periods of trance, hard dance and drum‘n‘bass until the current, and apparently eternal, love – house music. Soon after, he not only grabbed few great results in local DJ competitions, but also had some great underground parties in a developing dance scene of Panevezys, his home town.
After concentrating more on studies, he left for capital Vilnius, which allowed his career to reach a new level. Storming through some of the major clubs in the city as well as one of the biggest students’ festival in Lithuania with a crowd of more than three thousand, Danny settled in a small but cosy café Sole Luna in central Vilnius. “This is a place where I felt really relaxed and was having a great time. The vibe was really great, all those bouncing lamps, people dancing on the sills – it was just wonderful!”
The journey through all these styles formed his unique, all-around musical taste. „As long as it is quality music, I don‘t care what style it is,“ he explains. But what is quality, you may ask. „It‘s hard to say, to be honest,“ he continues. „Sometimes it doesn‘t necessary mean that it has to have some kind of huge musical value – sometimes all you need is three notes and a catchy bassline. And that’s what it makes a track great. You never know. I love the tracks that have something in them – a catchy melody, soulful vocals, lyrics – whatever, it just has to have something special.”
Although currently his mixes mainly include various kinds of house music, usually loaded with deep and soulful vibes or edgy electro bleeps and beats, he loves dropping in a tune or few which stands out of the whole set. Therefore, you shouldn’t be astonished if you hear a classic disco blockbuster, pop ballad of boy-band or even a hint of d’n’b madness in his sets.
Now, after moving to UK, he is promising great things in a near future. Although working as a business analyst on daytime, he still has enough time and willingness to work in a studio – his debut single is to be released in the beginning of next year on Skiped label and he is also looking forward to some great parties over the country.. “It is really very exciting! UK is perhaps one of the biggest countries on the map of electronic music, so it offers new ideas, new chances, new possibilities – and I like it!”
