Young man named Terry Fox died at a young age from cancer. First he had cancer in his leg which had to be amputated.
Because of this he decided to create a fund raising effort, $1 from every Canadian. He pledged to run across Canada with only one real leg and one artificial leg.
He began his run in Newfoundland by dipping his foot into the Atlantic. He worked very hard and (except for our arrogant province Quebec), all province people gave with great generosity.
Unfortunately the cancer returned to his lungs and he was forced to halt his run. His run stopped just outside of Thunder Bay and they placed the statue to commemorate where his run stopped.
